This Week’s Theme: Artists Collaborate
Great art doesn’t always happen alone; it often involves teamwork. Japanese printmaker Katsushika Hokusai worked with skilled carvers and printers to bring his woodblock prints to life, showing how collaboration can create masterpieces like The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
In the classroom, we can model that same spirit. This week’s WAAG (Week-At-A-Glance) dives into Hokusai’s process and invites students to think about how artists rely on each other’s strengths.
And for some hands-on fun, the Freebie of the Week is an Exquisite Creature drawing game. Students each take a turn drawing part of a figure without seeing the others’ work, and when the paper is unfolded, the collaborative artwork is revealed! It’s surprising, silly, and a perfect way to practice teamwork through art.
Grab the WAAG for structured lessons and download the free Exquisite Creature game to get your students creating together.
